Contracted by EU through Knowledge Hub to train 15 GMES&Africa Earth and Observation startups

The training will be part of the EU support to the Africa NewSpace Conference 2024.

Support pre-selected African start-ups with a training on how to run a digital business for digital entrepreneurship in order to ensure commercial viability, public to address are startup representatives who have come up with space-based digital
innovation but that may not have experience in entrepreneurship.
For the location of the training, the venue of the conference seems to allow for side events, or nearby hotel room suggested by the AUC.

GMES&Africa is expected to pre-select startup companies based on achievements/performance. These startups should be leveraging EO/geospatial technologies (Earth observation, geospatial intelligence, satellite imagery, precision mapping, weather intelligence, satellite data mining and analytics, and navigation and positioning).

The training aims at providing information and building capacity on how to run a digital business in a commercially viable way. Some notion of EO can be given but the training should not focus on EO but rather on business skills for digital entrepreneurship.

Building upon last year Africa NewSpace conference training success, DG INTPA and our counterpart at African Union level are keen to reiterate such a training under an optimised format (more targeted toward making startups commercially viable and entrepreneurship rather than on how to create digital solutions). Most relevant sessions of last year training for the scope of the 2024 training would
be:

  • Module 1: Self Evaluation
  • Module 2: Market Research.
  • Module 3: Business Breakdown
  • Module 7: Finance your business.
  • Module 10: Sales and Marketing
  • Module 11: Grow your business.
  • Module 13: Digital Skills
